Where ya Undertale junkies can come and excercise your inner Temmie and all that stuff, or just talk about Undertale in general.
In this post, I am gonna do my take on the game Undertale, yes, you finally get to see my true colours in terms of how I view the game. This is also the 1-Step guide on how to become hated by Undertale fans.
WARNING:Surprisingly enough, this is my opinion!Don't get your knickers in a twist!
While I was not from a time or place where I could easily get exposure to Earthbound/Mother or just the beautiful thing that is Mother 3, I can appreciate those games as a piece of art, they are games about life itself, but they provide a humorous take on it with memorable characters such as that cameraman who made you say random stuff like 'fuzzy pickles' before taking your photo.
While I do agree that Undertale takes elements from that game, it should be expected, given the dev literally made a hack for Earthbound, which was the debut of Megalovania(aka, the you are about to get your (swearword) handed to you theme),I could never see Undertale as a game, but rather an experience with interactive elements(before typing any angry comments, hear me out), the reason I say this, is that Undertale, is kinda meh in execution to me. I'll get my gripes over with first.
My Gripes:
I feel that the battling had a lot of wasted opportunities, the soul modes in particular, is where I was disappointed, for example, the shield mode, it only appears for one character, Undyne, the shield mode could have been used in more fights other than Undynes particular fights(I would've liked to see Mettaton use attacks like this), as well as the shooter mode, where you could be trying to fend off little Mettatons(like, Mettaton has a brand, killer robot toys is a possibility).
I found most of the monsters in the underground kinda... bland, and very hard to like or remember, especially some of the dogs, which may comes as a surprise, Doggo, Dogamy and Dogaressa, I had to search up the names, because they just aren't very good characters, in fact, I have a hard time remembering characters which aren't fan favourites, like Icecap.
Other than those, I am just going to put Temmie here by itself, despite being one of the most popular characters in the game, I could never really stand Temmie's personality, always in your face, and too random for my tastes, the two combined make something I hate. This is sort of why I burnt the temmie village in friends and foes.
What I did like:
The Main Characters, they were very well done, especially Sans, who in a way, is just like me, I see him as sort of a reflection my attitude on the current way schooling systems are done, I find him to be the most relateable character in the game. Alphys also has a very relateable characteristic, but I won't go into it, because spoilers.
The way the story pans out(not covering because spoilers.
The walk of feels(not going into this, because spoilers, obviously).
The unique approach to a RPG battle system.
How well the story is done when you realise how well spread out the pieces are.
How I'd sum this up as a TL:DR
I wouldn't buy Undertale for the game, but rather the experience it provides.
